School Horses

This page is a work in progress, as we welcome new school horses and new students to our program. Keep checking back for updated information and photos.

The information about the horses is current as of November, 2011. Once again, thanks!!! to Joe, Donna, Laura, and Cindy Ewing for the majority of our photos, here and elsewhere on this site. Thanks also to Helen, who is one of the most creative artists we've ever met -- the cartoons are hers.

Amigo is a 16-hand TB who joined Seven Oaks in the summer of 2011. We hope that he becomes everyone's new pal. He already has a fan in Britta, who has been riding him for almost 2 years now. This picture shows Britta on Amigo at a Seven Oaks show.l

Balou is one of our most popular school horses: TBxQH, about 15.2 hands. He has competed through 2nd level and is a reliable dressage schoolmaster, but he prefers to help newbies learn the intro & training level ropes. The picture above is of Balou winning at an open dressage show; the pictures below are of Ann and Anson. He can be a bit of an escape artist, though, and has a great time running us all through a few hoops if does get loose. Thanks to Helen for her rendition of Balou, exiting stage left...

Berry is an 11-year-old Quarter Horse, about 15.1 hands. His picture here shows him with Tina, winning at Training Level at the Midsummer Night dressage show series with scores in the high 70s. A school horse who is quite talented in dressage, he is currently working on 1st and 2nd level movements. He loves trails and treats. Berry's current people are Tina (shown competing him here), Jillian, Elizabeth and Britta. However, Caitlin and Mary try to ride him every chance they get! Thanks to Helen for getting inside Berry's head to show us the true horse.

Butters is a 15.3 hand TBxQH. He is seen here showing his winning style, with Mary, at the Coastal Classic dressage show. As school horses go, he is on the more relaxed side, so don't expect to see him doing extended canter any time soon. His motto is "please bring carrots." Butters' current people are Joe and Norma. Thanks to Helen for both naming him and drawing him.

Charley is a 14.2 hand QH pony. He loves children, trail rides, being in turnout and cantering. He has shown Intro and Training Level at "away" shows, but really shines at home. His school horse specialty is introducing new students to the fun of horseback riding. Charley's current people are Debbie, Kathleen, and Grace. Helen's cartoon shows how everyone feels about Charley and how he responds.
Frankie is a 17.1 hand Oldenburg. He has trained & shown through the FEI Levels with scores in the mid 60s and is a solid PSG schoolmaster. His loves sugar and the piaffe. Frankie's current people are Helen and Sonia.
Jasper is a 14.1 hand grade pony. He has competed through 2nd level with scores in the high 60s. He is a solid 3rd level schoolmaster, although he thinks that it's a lot of work. He loves to show off and the judges love him, as well. Jasper's has a huge fan base: Helen (seen showing him here above), Caitlin (showing, below), Laura, Valerie, Joe, Jillian, Kristie and Elizabeth.

Jeremy is a 15.2 hand quarter horse. His former job was as a roping horse and in every way but color, he really reminds us of "Stevie"--good gaits, great brain, willing to learn this goofy thing that we dressage people do. He's shown here with Sonia at his first dressage show.
Kevin is a 15 hand Welsh Cob. He is currently competing at 3rd level. At this point in his career, he is more of a show horse than a school horse, having earned multiple scores over 70%. We expect him to complete at the FEI levels soon. He loves flying changes and medium canter, almost as much as he loves the trails.
Kindle is a 14.1 hand Welsh Cob cross. His current people are Carrie, Kay, Joe & Mary. He's still a little shy around strangers, but he is trying to be brave and make new friends. Look for him this summer at local dressage shows.
Logan is a 14.2 hand Welsh pony. He is new to dressage, but has lots of experience being sensible under saddle. We think that you'll love him as much as we do. Carrie, is working hard to help him become the best dressage school horse in our barn.
Nemo is a 15.2 hand paint. He seems to love the way we do things. He's the most submissive horse in any pasture, so we always bring him extra treats when we ride him. Olga has been showing him this summer, to great success!

Ollie is a 14 hand Halfinger gelding. He won an Intro class with Helen at his first show. We hope to have him at Training and First level in 2011. Ollie's current people are Helen, Laura (showing Ollie at their first show together), Jac (working with Mary on the lunge), Holly, and Sonia. Thanks to Laura for her drawing of Ollie and for the picture of him, relaxing in his paddoc.

Ponyboy is a 6-year-old Welsh cob gelding. He is 14 hands going on 17 hands. While he hasn't yet been to a show, we have great hopes for him--he's quite the show-off!. If you want to ride him, you'll have to get in line behind Carrie and Pamela and Kay and Helen and Mary and Caitlin and...
Russell is a 6-year-old Welsh cob gelding, a cousin of Kevin & Ponyboy. He is 15 hands, black with a huge white star & 4 white socks -- very flashy! From a dressage point of view, he is green-broke, but he seems to be enjoying himself so far. Pamela and Olga are his current "moms"--that's Olga on him in this photo.
Wiley is a 17.1 Hannoverian. He is trained to PSG, although his days as a show horse are long gone. He is one of our best schoolmasters and always our first choice of horse for people who want to school flying changes and lateral work. His trot and canter have enough "boing" to make lunge lessons on him truly a work-out. Wiley's current people are Karolina, Celeste and Kathryn.
